Check out the amazing "new" Intuit Art Museum
Outsider art museum in Chicago underwent a $10M renovation
The Intuit Art Museum, rebranded as IAM, is one of the only museums in the U.S. devoted to outsider art, art produced by those who are not "trained" artists. A supporter of the institution for many years, we strongly support the mission of IAM.
From their new website:
Intuit Art Museum champions the diverse voices of self-taught art, welcoming both new and familiar audiences. Located in Chicago’s West Town neighborhood, Intuit is a premier museum of self-taught art. The Museum collects and exhibits work by artists who typically work outside the mainstream and have developed a sustained artistic practice. Some artists may have faced societal, economic or geographic barriers to pursuing extensive training in the arts. The museum’s mission is grounded in the ethos that the instinct to create is universal and the arts must embrace, represent and be accessible to all.
The Grand (Re)Imagining Party was this past Saturday and we attended. Located at 756 N. Milwaukee Avenue in Chicago, the museum is officially re-opening on Friday, May 23rd, following a $10 million renovation and expansion.
We saw the current show "Catalyst Im/migration and Self-Taught Art in Chicago," which showcased some artists with whom we were not familiar, but are glad to know.

We met some great people who are part of the museum, and ran into others we have known for quite a while. One thing we learned was that we have been mispronouncing the name of very well-known Chicago artist Henry Darger. It is DAR-gher, not DAR-juur.
Our interest in outsider art definitely aligns with and is a subset of Arte Agora, as the diagram below from our book Arte Agora demonstrates.
An institution like IAM supports and champions many of the same artists that we do such as Peace Prophet and Lajuana Lampkins. Check it out and support them; they deserve it. And, if you haven’t already gotten copies of our books Arte Agora or Spots, Forms & Methods, they will be available in the gift shop.
